ISLANDS: A PEEK INTO THE FUTURE
Islands face unique challenges in terms of ensuring a secure and cost-effective energy supply. Many islands have been early adopters of renewables, and have consequently seen some of the world’s first deployments of energy storage projects. These projects not only showcase the diversity of storage technologies and applications, but also serve as fascinating case studies for the broader energy system. Islands offer a peek into the future, setting an example for how interconnected systems could someday integrate very high shares of renewables while ensuring buy-in from local communities.
THE WORKSHOP
The Energy Storage on Islands Workshop will bring together leading energy storage industry experts, EU policymakers, system operators, local authorities, and other stakeholders to explore the experiences gained from storage projects on islands (both interconnected and non-interconnected islands) as well as weak grids.
During the workshop, experts will:
- Present cutting-edge developments in storage technologies
- Address financing and business case aspects
- Reflect on policy and regulatory challenges
- Consider what lessons can be learned for the broader energy system
ADDRESS THE CHALLENGES AND GENERATE RECOMMENDATIONS
Through an interactive format, speakers and participants will be able to debate the different challenges and opportunities related to storage on islands. Together, they will generate recommendations and solutions that can help the energy storage industry and policymakers support the broader deployment of storage on islands.
OPENING DINNER
Participants will also have the possibility to develop new synergies and expand their networks during the opening dinner taking place on 20 November 2019.
The Energy Storage on Islands Workshop is organised by the European Association for Storage of Energy (EASE).
